However, what people do not think about is that behind many summer activities, STEM is used at our convenience. Although STEM is often associated with academic and professional settings such as classrooms and laboratories, its influence extends beyond that, as it is essential in the summertime months.
Climate Control
The most practical example of STEM being utilized during the summer would be climate control technology. Air conditioning becomes a must in homes, schools, and workplaces as temperatures rise. Advancements in engineering and technology have led to the development and usage of more energy efficient cooling systems, which help reduce energy consumption. According to BECIS, an energy service provider, these upgrades have involved changes in the shape and model of the systems, the integration of smart controls on thermostats, and real-time cooling demands.
Weather Forecasting and Safety
Weather forecasting is another way STEM is used during the summer. Meteorologists are constantly conducting research and utilizing satellite imagery to monitor the weather conditions. This is especially important for keeping individuals and communities safe during hurricane season, as well as extreme heat waves that may occur. STEM During the Winter
STEM is essential throughout every season, though its application shifts depending on the environment and conditions. During the winter months, STEM is often used in similar ways but with a greater focus on heating systems, insulation, and winter-related safety instead of cooling systems and hurricane safety. Engineers and scientists are always adapting technology to solve different problems throughout the year, demonstrating the versatility and significance of STEM in everyday life.
