“The NSTEM Chapter has increased both student and family engagement around STEM culture in our school community. It has also helped recognize students whose talents and potential may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Students value the recognition, and many are now striving to strengthen their academic achievement in order to qualify for membership. In that way, the NSTEM Chapter has become a vital component in building the STEM culture of the school.”
“NSTEM induction is more than recognition of academic excellence, it is a challenge to continue participation in extra- and co-curricular activities such as the State Science and Engineering Fair, Invention Convention, and other programs. Also, NSTEM gear such as shirts and sweatshirts are acceptable under the school’s uniform policy.”
“Having an NSTEM chapter has opened our students up to new experiences in a typical PBL program. Children have explored not only the classroom but their community and the its natural environment in deeper ways though they share the space. There are experiences they have encountered daily and are now discovering new interests and explored in projects. They have become excited to participate in STEAM activities and share them with persons in their support system.”
“Our school has a STEM Cohort program and this is the first year we applied to host an NSTEM Chapter. This has provided our students with a greater sense of purpose and belonging within STEM. It has encouraged them to take ownership of projects, collaborate with peers, and engage meaningfully with our local community.”
“Our students have greatly benefited from presenting at the NSTEM PBL Showcase because they get valuable practice and feedback from judges. This practice helps them prepare for regional and state science fairs. Furthermore, our students are proud to receive the NSTEM Certificate and the stoles when they graduate.”
“Having an NSTEM chapter has created a space where my students can see themselves as STEM leaders, not just learners, by engaging in hands-on projects, competitions, and real-world problem solving. It has increased student confidence, especially among those who may not typically see themselves in STEM, while also strengthening collaboration, communication, and leadership skills. As a result, students are more engaged in science both inside and outside the classroom and are more motivated to pursue STEM-related opportunities and careers.”
“[National STEM Honor Society] has allowed us to bring in students interested in STEM that are not just STEM Academy students. It has also allowed us to branch out (pun intended) into new projects like hydroponics which we had not been able to previously.”
“Our NSTEM Chapter has provided a roadmap for excellence that motivates students to engage more deeply with STEM beyond the standard curriculum. We have been able to encourage more family participation in STEM activities, making STEM a household priority for our families. Even with only being in action for a few months, we have seen learners demonstrate higher levels of engagement and a clearer vision of themselves as scientists, engineers, coders, and mathematicians.”
“My students feel privileged to be a part [of the National STEM Honor Society].They have formed a comradery that will likely stay strong if they continue on in the same schools. They have led community service efforts, learned how to prepare and present Science Fair Projects, and introduced a successful fundraiser at their school.”
“Having an National STEM Honor Society chapter has provided our students with meaningful opportunities to lead, innovate, and take pride in their STEM achievements. It has created a community where students feel empowered to explore advanced STEM pathways through hands-on projects, competitions, and collaboration. As a result, students have grown in confidence, strengthened essential skills such as communication and problem-solving, and become more motivated to pursue STEM careers and postsecondary opportunities.”
