In celebration of Global Astronomy Month, the Bishop Ireton High School chapter of the National STEM Honor Societyโข (NSTEMโข) created a special feature highlighting NASAโs Artemis II mission, a milestone in human space exploration and the continued effort to return humans to the Moon.
Led by chapter president David De Costa, the student-created content recognized the importance of Artemis II as part of NASAโs larger Artemis program. Artemis II was NASAโs first crewed mission around the Moon under the Artemis program and included Commander G. Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
The Bishop Ireton NSTEM chapter designed a poster to help educate and inspire students about the mission and its role in advancing deep space exploration. The project reflects the chapterโs commitment to promoting STEM awareness, curiosity, and student engagement beyond the classroom.
In an exciting moment for the chapter, David also shared the poster with NASA astronaut G. Reid Wiseman, Commander of Artemis II. Wiseman responded positively, saying he loved the poster. This recognition made the project even more meaningful for the students and highlighted how student-led STEM work can connect with real-world leaders in science and exploration.
Artemis II represents a powerful example of innovation, teamwork, and the future of space discovery. According to NASA, the mission launched aboard the Space Launch System rocket and carried the Orion spacecraft on a journey around the Moon, helping pave the way for future lunar exploration.
NSTEM is proud to spotlight the Bishop Ireton High School chapter for using Global Astronomy Month as an opportunity to celebrate space exploration and inspire students to think boldly about the future of STEM.
Through projects like this, NSTEM chapters continue to demonstrate how student leadership, creativity, and passion for science can make STEM more visible and exciting within their school communities.
