The National STEM Honor Society’s™ (NSTEM™) core mission is to inspire and recognize excellence from K to Career in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
At the middle school level, students are receptive to academic and extracurricular engagement in STEM enrichment activities. They have an appreciation of STEM topics and projects, can easily make connections between concepts, apply critical thinking skills, and learn to work collaboratively in teams. NSTEM creates excitement about STEM subjects, encourages students to get involved, cultivates a passion for discovery, recognizes excellence, and inspires students to pursue careers in STEM.

NSTEM encourages families — whether in or out of the classroom — to be involved with their children’s STEM journeys by offering ideas for activities the whole family can enjoy. NSTEM provides a curated library of resources of exciting, educational, and engaging activities. Students in middle school will be involved in STEM enrichment activities provided and/or approved by their local chapter. STEM enrichment activities can take the form of, but are not limited to, science fairs, STEM-related clubs, and summer camps.
Unlike other honor societies which may only meet once a year to recognize the academic achievements of students, the National STEM Honor Society is an ongoing, vital group that works with students throughout the year. And unlike student clubs, NSTEM admits only students with a record of excellence in STEM coursework and engagement in STEM enrichment activities, making membership a prestigious honor.
Every chapter is a little different depending on the level, the school, and the Advisor, but we suggest meetings be held at least monthly. Sometimes, outside speakers or virtual speakers from our vast library of YouTube and other resources may address the group. Other meetings might present projects or challenges that students can continue working on during their free time, separately or collaborative, at school or at home.
The NSTEM Program is designed to grow with students From K to CAREER™. Middle school members can look forward to continuing their involvement in high school where their participation is sure to impress college admission offices.
