NSTEM Member Honesty Policy
Purpose:
The purpose of this NSTEM Member Honesty Policy is to outline the expectations and responsibilities of members and ensure that they understand the importance of honesty in their work for the National STEM Honor Society. This policy applies to all parents and guardians of members enrolled in the Individual Global Membership Program of the National STEM Honor Society, as well as parents of chapter members under 13 years of age.
This policy has four tenants:
- Academic Integrity:
- Members must submit a copy of their original report card from their learning institution without changes or modifications to the document.
- Members must submit their description of the event/activity and photos of work and properly acknowledge the contributions of others.
- Transparency in Collaboration:
- While collaboration on certain assignments may be encouraged, Members must ensure that their contributions are their own and that they properly cite collaborative work.
- Accuracy and Truthfulness:
- Members must provide accurate and truthful information in all academic submissions.
- Fabrication or falsification of data, sources, or any other academic information is unacceptable.
- Respect for Policies and Procedures:
- Members must adhere to all honesty policies and procedures set forth by your learning institution and the National STEM Honor Society.
- This includes following guidelines for submitting any and all documents, requirements and enrichment hours.
Examples of Dishonesty:
- Plagiarism – the use of another’s work, word or ideas as your own without attribution.
- Presenting Work – that the Member did not do or complete
- Fabrication:
- Falsifying data, research results, or sources to meet the requirements
- Providing photos of work that you did not do or complete
- Consequences of Violations:
- Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action, which could include: being placed back on “Provisional Membership” until requirements are met to dismissal from the National STEM Honor Society.
- In the event that a Member is dismissed from the National STEM Honor Society, membership fee will not be refunded. .
- Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action, which could include: being placed back on “Provisional Membership” until requirements are met to dismissal from the National STEM Honor Society.
Review and Updates:
This Honesty Policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and relevance and members will be informed of any changes to the policy.

The purpose of this Parent/Guardian Honesty Policy outlines the expectations and responsibilities of Parents regarding honesty in their Member’s work for the National STEM Honor Society (NSTEM). This policy applies to all parents and guardians of members enrolled in the Individual Global Membership Program of the National STEM Honor Society, as well as parents of chapter members under 13 years of age.

- Parents/Guardians must verify that their Member’s learning institution report card is valid and the original without changes or modifications to the document
- Parents/Guardians must verify that a Member submits accurate photos and documentation of their work and properly acknowledge the contributions of others.

- While collaboration on certain assignments may be encouraged, Parents/Guardians verify that the Member’s contributions are their own and that they are properly cited on collaborative work.
