With technology advancing faster than ever, an abundance resources are being developed to help students better understand STEM. Students have access to this knowledge with the apps on their phones, tablets, computers, etc. NSTEM has a list of 10 different learning apps to help students understand and engage in STEM subjects!
Resourceful Apps Everyone Should Know
1. Khan Academy has an app for iPhones and Androids. Khan Academy is a place that helps students with lessons that they learn in class. These range from math lessons pre-K to college courses, reading lessons pre-K to 8th grade, economics, high school social studies, life skills, science classes, and test prep.
2. Sololearn has a coding app that will allow students of any age to learn how to code. C + + is one of the many coding languages that is used in computers. Not to mention, this is one of many languages that students have access to as the Sololearn app can have students coding before their first college class.
3. STEMpump is a new app that is for everyone. This app may be just starting, but it already has many lessons for students. There are also different subject areas that this app goes into such as robotics, programming, game designing, and more. Moreover, STEMpump is constantly adding more lessons to the app as time goes on so be sure to check this out in the app store!
4. NASA has several apps for students of all ages to explore space. Students can not only learn about the solar system, but they can also learn about the rockets, astronauts, and the centers that make space exploration possible! Check out their list of apps here.
5. Pocket Physics is an app for high school and college students on android devices. This app allows students to learn most of the concepts, equations, and formulas for physics. In addition, this app is great for students to help them prepare for exams and this is a great resource for physics homework.
Fun Apps to Interact with STEM Concepts
6. Earth Now is an app for Android and Apple devices where students can see the earth in a what-if situation. It displays a 3D model of Earth using global climate data from satellites that display the sea level, gravity, surface temperature, and the gases in the air.
7. PBS Kids has an app Play and Learn Science where the app has 15 different games that cover Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science. It’s a great introduction for elementary students. Additionally, the app also provides a parent section to help them engage with their children in STEM. This app also includes the bonus of being in Spanish as well.
8. BrainPOP is an online learning service that provides students with the topics that they learn in class as simple explanations. It has an app for iPhone and iPad users as BrainPOP brings its resources to students on their devices. Furthermore, BrainPOP has multiple topics that are beneficial for students as they cover from Science to Art to Technology and more.
9. Mathspace is an online service for students and educators that provides feedback and learning topics in math. This app gives students multiple ways to solve problems if they do not understand and allows both students and educators to have access to textbooks and other resources.
10. National Geographic Kids have an app where students can learn a wide variety of STEM lessons and about animals. Through this app, students can learn about STEM through the different games that they will enjoy!
