We view environmental responsibility as a vital part of both operational excellence and educational principles. Pursuing the Commitment to Environmental Sustainability aligns our work and employees with environmental stewardship, which is realized as follows:
Resource Library– NSTEM™ is committed to continually updating and adding exclusive resources for Chapter members found in the Resource Library curated with engaging projects with an increasing ratio related to sustainability.
Projects – Chapter advisors are encouraged to promote student projects related to environmental issues and sustainability, as well as to use recycled materials in their projects whenever possible.
Structure – One percent of Chapter fees are donated to international organizations that support our three commitments.
Store – Our Store inventory is purposely limited and focused on sustainable products for sale to members and Chapters.
UN’s Sustainability Development Goals (SDG’s) – The United Nations Sustainability Development Goals provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. NSTEM embraces the goals and works to promote and incorporate them in our with within the communities we serve locally and globally.
Paper Consumption Reduction – Reducing paper consumption is achieved through electronic reporting documents in the Advisor Dashboard and Student Dashboard.
Web Development and Design – NSTEM’s designer Karen Shea Design and web developer smallfish design are both local and embrace sustainability in their practices and operations.
Green Website Hosting – NSTEM’s website hosting company GreenGeeks is the industry’s leading eco-friendly web hosting provider.
Green Cleaning – Our staff offices use 100% green cleaning products.
Sustainable Purchasing – NSTEM’s sustainable purchasing policy guides us when to acquire goods and services and select the products based on their social and environmental impact.
Minimal Waste Strategies – NSTEM engages in multiple strategies to minimize waste in all departments and all levels of the organization.
Renewable Energy Office – NSTEM is committed to consuming 100% renewable energy for our offices.
Virtual Employees – NSTEM and our partner, Seaside Sustainability, fully embrace virtual work and encourage our local, regional, and international team members to work remotely.
